General Rules
Fall League provides an opportunity for players to learn about the game and gain experience playing fastpitch. Because of fall weather conditions and Sunday play, all games will be scheduled for 1 hour and 5 minutes – allowing for the last inning to be completed, and one inning of international tie breaker if the game is tied. Free substitution and round robin batting is mandatory. 5 run per inning rule during 3 week league play for 10U and 12U with 10U keeping the rule the entire season.
MGSA Fall Fastpitch Philosophy
The objective of all MGSA softball programs is to provide a fun, learning sports opportunities for our girls and young women. The MGSA Fall Fastpitch program emphasizes individual player development in a less competitive environment than is present during the Summer season. The Fall program is viewed as a valuable stepping stone to the next Summer season. Many players will be moving up to a new age division and some players will be new to Fastpitch entirely.
While we do like to compete, Fall Fastpitch coaches are encouraged to take advantage of situations to give players time at positions at which they may be relatively new as well as to provide roughly equal playing time to all players. We place considerable importance during both practices and games on teaching our players the fundamentals of the game. Having fun is an important factor. However, positioning players and playing time is considered when playing the state qualifying and state tournaments, where winning advances the team.
