MGSA has a large recreational/in-house softball program. Teams are formed based on grade, school and neighborhoods. At the youngest levels, our goal is to teach basic throwing and hitting skills as well as a general knowledge of the game. Emphasis on skill development and competition increases as the girls become older. At all levels, we emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship and FUN.
The skills learned in the developmental in-house program can be applied in either the High School Slowpitch or Fastpitch programs should girls continue on to a more advanced stage of competition.
Our developmental teams usually practice once per week with 1 or 2 games per week. At the 10U, 13U and HSSP levels there may be batting cage practice as well, with 3 games per week.
We start practices in April, with games starting in late April. Most programs end their seasons by July 4, but some players in the 10U, 13U and HSSP may extend their season for state tournament play.
The number and size of teams are based on the number of girls registered within the various age groups.
